Lice infestations are not contagious after proper treatment. It's crucial to understand that lice are contagious only when there are adult female fertilized lice present. It is possible to eliminate all the adult lice while inadvertently leaving behind their small eggs, known as nits. This is why it is important to carefully comb the hair using a suitable nit comb or seek professional assistance. These nits remain dormant and hatch around 7 to 10 days later, leading many individuals to mistakenly believe they have been reinfected. In reality, the initial treatment was likely incomplete and thorough removal of the nits was necessary. Contact one of our professional lice experts today to ensure the full elimination of lice and nits.

Non-chemical lice treatments will not damage hair, but excessive use of chemical or shampoo treatments may lead to damaged hair follicles. If you have head lice and are already dealing with hair loss, it's crucial to act swiftly to minimize scalp damage. Even if you don't currently experience hair loss, head lice can exacerbate the problem. Excessive hair pulling or itching, scalp irritation, and infection are common causes of hair loss associated with lice infestations. Over-the-counter treatments often contain toxic chemicals aimed at eliminating lice, but they can irritate the scalp, cause infection, and potentially worsen hair loss. Moreover, over-the-counter treatments may not effectively eliminate all lice, leading to potential reinfestation. Treating lice without professional guidance or with an untrained person introduces variables that can result in recurring lice problems. To avoid these risks, consider seeking professional treatments like the AirAlle or FloSonix. These patented lice treatment machines use no chemicals, ensuring a worry-free experience without adverse side effects. With over hundreds of thousands of successful cases, you can trust in effective head lice treatment and rest easy.

Clinics without the “Verified” badge are providers we haven’t been able to directly contact or fully accredit yet. While these providers may still offer lice treatment services, we have not independently confirmed their standards or practices. We recommend choosing verified listings for added peace of mind and assurance.

A hair straightener is not safe or effective in treating lice infestations. While it's true that nits, or lice eggs, are unable to endure extreme heat, it's important to note that using a hair straightener alone is not an effective method for eliminating them. While heat can help in killing nits, it is recommended to use other treatments. Exposing nits to temperatures above 130°F for over 5 minutes can kill them. However, reaching and maintaining such temperatures on the scalp using a blow dryer alone can be challenging and not recommended as it also poses a risk of scalp burns. It's important to use proven treatments specifically designed for lice removal. If you or someone you know is dealing with a lice infestation, consult a professional who can provide appropriate guidance and recommend the best course of action.

Both extreme heat and extreme cold temperatures will kill lice instantly. Machines like the FloSonix or Zyma Air [hyperlinked] use hot and cold air respectively, by shooting precise columns of air onto both scalp and hair to get rid of lice.

Lice treatment salons are important to killing lice at the source. However, the at-home aftercare is just as important to prevent re-infestations. Wash all clothing, bedding, and linens. Vacuum your home thoroughly. Disinfect combs, hair clips, and hairbrushes.

"Super Lice" is a term that has emerged in recent years to describe strains of head lice that have developed resistance to the common over-the-counter (OTC) treatments that traditionally killed lice and their eggs.
